Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 now supporting Generation 2 Linux VM’s!!! This alone will speed up the VM’s quite a bit by opening up some of the disk access bottlenecks that  Generation 1 VM’s suffer from.

Hyper-V 2012 R2 now supporting Generation 2 Linux VM's!!!

My only current disappointment is that Ubuntu 13.10 is not supported so I will need to rebuild that VM with Ubuntu 14.04. As of right now (June 11 2014) Ubuntu 14.04 is the only supported Linux distro by Microsoft to be a Generation 2 VM.
