KB2920189 won’t install on 2012 R2 VM

I had several Windows Server 2012 R2 VM’s keep getting errors every time it tried to install KB2920189 which after further research found out that it was due to secure boot being enabled on the VM’s. Luchily this fix is only a few reboots away when KB2920189 won’t install on 2012 R2 VM. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Shutdown the VM
  2. Click on file, settings.
  3. Uncheck Enable Secure Boot
  4. Apply the settings and boot the VM
  5. Install the updates without failing
  6. Power off
  7. Re-enable secure boot and power back on
